I never knew why the authors of some cunning game suddenly resolved the creation of its continuation to other people. Fortunately, it always ended badly – Silent Hill, after the disbandment of Team Silent, and did not reach the greatness of the second and third parts, and Capcom wrote out a protracted ticket to the coffin of the Blue Castle Games studio, deleting them a series of Dead Riding.
It’s also bad, shortly after the release of Lost Planet 3, finished and Spark Unlimited. And the reason for this was exactly the same – they were instructed to develop what was not invented by them. They had nothing necessary to create a continuation of such a game as Lost Planet: neither mindset, nor understanding, nor sending to the outside world, finally. That is, not one of those things that explained why Lost Planet was exactly what it is. I’m not even talking about their “professionalism”. However, they still made her.
They made an extremely predictable way: they took the first Lost Planet as the basis of Feature and began to think what could be fixed in it. And the first thing they came up with was “enough Lost Planet to be a 3D Contra series. »And what is needed for this? That’s right, to make sure that there is something else in the game except gameplay, acrides and endless snow. Unfortunately, fantasies were enough only for a new screenwriter, director and a couple of other little things. Another thing is that these two coped well with their work.
Spark Unlimited thought that Lost Planet 3 was a game in the open world. Nonsense. On the contrary, Lost Planet 3 – the game is very chamber. There are few characters (and only one is remembered at all-a gale, a mechanic on the coronis), there is almost nowhere to go on the bases, and the plot (somewhere peppy, sagging somewhere, but average in total) outside the KAT scenes is practically absent. The first Lost Planet was done approximately the same. But there is one “but”: the quality of execution. If the game has a character, then he will have a convincing motivation, logical character traits, but you will not have a shadow of doubt why he is, which is, which is, which is. If the wife sent you a video written, then her three will be mentally written, well played, and the facial animation of a computer model does not disappoint.
It would be almost good if all this in the game is too few. Most of the time you will spend in the local open world, which is not what is empty, it is sterile. There is nothing important or memorable in it, only acrides, ice floes, ruins, radio negotiations and rare heat generators. The authors got into the same trap as the ID Software with Rage: the open world here is just another linear corridor of a slightly increased width and if you remove it from there, no one will miss it.

There are few weapons, the scenery is the same type (except for the final), the enemies seem to be diverse, but they release them at an hour on a teaspoon, endlessly throwing you with ordinary sepias and bolsupia. This is partially smoothed out by a competent sound design – Spark Unlimited very competently picked up dynamic music. As a result, some boring shootout, if it is important for the plot, is correctly emphasized by music and even leaves a good impression. It seems that it is necessary to smear developers along the wall for such a simple and cheap technique, but it is impossible to refuse that it works.
And finally, the main thing is what is in this game is fights with great acrides. What, what, and the desire to defeat mighty bosses, the gamers seem to never disappear. Everything is just the same as at the time of Dendy: on the one hand – a large, strong and very tenacious monster, and on the other, you, with a machine gun in your hands and several grenades on the belt (sometimes inside a large, eranded robot). And then – the dance of death, the winner from which only one of you will come out.
But with the rest in Lost Planet 3, everything is much worse. For example, how do you like this idea: to get to the next mission, you must first go along the route of the previous? Or upgrades made on the principle of “to be” and without which you can easily do? Or robot, 90% of the time you just walk? Or additional tasks where efforts and reward are not comparable?
And this is the main problem Lost Planet 3: it focuses on the quality standards of the first part. Games, which, even at the time of its exit, in 2006, was not a big hit and shot only from a general lack of games on Xbox 360. And a year later, Call of Duty 4 came out: Modern Warfare, showing how to really direct the militants of the video game format. Since its release, it became impossible to interest the player simply with a good action and the creation of a plot intrigue. We need a different level of production, you need interesting situations, you need to finally clean out any routine and irritants from the game.
Lost Planet 3 does the opposite. It is realistic where for games this is the worst of all – in the working routine, which we already encounter every day in real life. Then why she needs it? If the authors intentionally wanted to realistically show the boring everyday life of a person at watch, then they succeeded. On this side, there are no questions for Lost Planet 3. The trouble is that Spark Unlimited forgot what they are doing. A game that should entertain. The game for which people pay money. A game that should finally not shame the glory of the entire series (which, given the quality of Lost Planet 2, is not so difficult). And this mistake cost it very expensive: in 2015 the studio was closed.
But, before you go to Metacritic and see the general rating of Lost Planet 3 there, listen to this – these people tried. They knew that they were bad as developers, but still tried. What else did they have to do? They honestly tried to invest in Lost Planet 3. And they did it. Put it exactly as much as they had talent. And, despite the mediocre directing of the finals, you will feel at the end the emotions that they wanted to convey to you. There will be so much conversation and personal immersion on your way that you just can’t ignore it.
They did everything they could. It is stupid to demand more from them. Understand and forgive them that. They are not from evil.
